With the guidance of the Xiangxiang migration bureau, Qizi town of Xiangxiang’s Shuifu demonstration area has developed a distinctive fruit industry over the years, forming a “four-season orchard”.

Peng Liang, owner of a 200-mu (about 13 hectares) pear garden in Gushui village of Qizi town, returned to his hometown to plant pears with his wife in 2007. His pear garden had an output value of 300,000 yuan ($43,986.98) last year, and is predicted to double it this year. The related policies released by the Xiangxiang migration bureau eased Peng’s pressure in the initial period of his startup. The government assisted him to flatten the barren hill and construct irrigation and drainage facilities.

Other villagers of Gushui village became eager fruiters after Peng’s success. There are already about 600 mu of pear trees in the village, as well as other fruit trees. Loquat and waxberry can be harvested in spring, yellow peaches and pears mature in summer, and autumn reaps pomelo and orange, making Gushui village a “four-season orchard”.
